Thinking of Adopting a Pet?
There are several factors to consider before choosing a pet as it is a long-term commitment.
Given that dogs often live twelve years and indoors cats fifteen, you need to be prepared for several years of costs and effort.
Check out the sections below to give you a realistic idea of the responsibilities and costs of adopting a dog, cat or other pet.
Adopt a DOG
Take the time to think about what type of dog is best for your situation and what you can offer it. This discussion should take place with everyone whom will be involved in the dog’s life (children, roommates, extended family members, your boyfriend / girlfriend, etc.).
We also invite you to consult our blog articles Questions to ask yourself before adopting a dog and the costs and equipment to plan in order to make a thoughtful choice.
Avoid Impulsive Decisions – Ask yourself the right questions!

Bringing home your dog for the first time is an exciting moment! Let your dog freely explore his new living space. It is normal that at the beginning it will be very fearful, so do not rush things. You have to understand that he may have been a boarder at the shelter for some time, where there was noise, other animals, comings and goings, etc. He will need rest and a lot of love from you!
Consult our blog post on how to welcome a new dog at home to get some tips.
Remember that your pet’s ID tag de must be placed around his neck at all times.
Take the time to introduce your pet to other pets in the house as well as your neighbors. They will be able to recognize it and help you find it if it runs away. Consult the articles on introducing a dog and a cat or two dogs together to make sure you are well prepared.
Don’t forget: we’re there for you!

Find out if you or a family member has allergies by taking the time to have a test, such as bringing a friend’s pet into your home for a few days. If you discover allergies and still decide to adopt an animal, then you will need to be aware of your responsibility to ensure the well-being of this companion throughout his life, even if your allergies will not abandon you…
